More from the Art Room

As April continues to fly past, students in the Art Room continue to explore the Elements of Art and Principles of Design in their units.  Here's what took place this week.

Kindergarten students learned about geometric and organic shapes.  They used cut paper to create colorful abstract works.

First Graders talked about color, light and shadow.  Here are some images of the process to create Shadow Snails from oil pastels.

Fifth and Sixth grade students are learning about the work of Pablo Picasso.  In addition, they are exploring color theory and shading techniques.

Eighth grade students continue to work on their Confirmation banners.  These will be completed by the end of the month.  Students will share the banners during the Witness Service the evening of Friday, May 3.

Additionally, some students decorated the room for Easter and spring!

Back from Break

As we return from spring break, students continue to create work and complete projects.  Here are a few samples from this week:

First Grade began an abstraction piece called Alphabet Soup.  They filled the page with the alphabet in random order, traced their letters with crayon, and then they used watercolor over the entire page for a watercolor resist.  I love to see the outcome of these brightly colored paintings!

Second Grade completed their fish paintings from Dr. Seuss month.  These paintings were inspired by the book One Fish, Two Fish.  Following those sessions, we began creating a character inspired by the book There's A Wocket In My Pocket.

As a behavior incentive, Eighth Grade received their Art Party this week.  They played a game where they would describe a painting to their partner, and their partner had to draw the painting - based solely on their description!  Students had a lot of fun trying to create something without seeing it first.
