December Progress

Happy Holidays and Merry CHRISTmas everyone!  Here is this week's update on what's been happening in the art room. . . .

Thank you to the seventh grade students that made the art room decorations!  All students have enjoyed the festive spirit of the room.

Kindergarten students started creating art for the holiday season by working on Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer drawings.

Second graders have been studying a variety of artists over the past month.  This week, students began learning about the Spanish artist, Joan Miro.

Sixth graders have been putting in a TON of work on their book illustrations.  They each selected a fairy tale, and they were tasked with illustrating a major point of the story.  Here are some selections.

Daetyn, Jack and the Beanstalk

Katie, Peter Pan

Seventh and Eighth Grades are just beginning their unit on Surrealist Rooms.  In this unit, they study the art movement called Surrealism, plus they review what they know about one point perspective.  Yesterday we practiced drawing boxes in three dimension in order to activate prior knowledge.

December Starts

As we start the month of December, students have been completing lessons and beginning some anew.  Here are some recent highlights.

Kindergarten learned their primary, secondary, warm and cool colors through a project called Kandinsky Color Circles.  This lesson always looks stunning when the pieces are all displayed together.

First grade just began one of my favorite projects for them: Farm Landscapes.  In this unit, students explore how to create a sense of depth by learning about one point perspective.  I am so proud of the concepts that they are succeeding at for such young students!

We've been a little behind in our units this year, so fourth grade just completed their chalk pastel pumpkins.  No matter that we've already see snow!  They were just so excited to be able to work with pastels finally!

One last image from our Impressionist Forgeries.  I am very proud of the work that the seventh and eighth graders put forth.

Art Room Fundraiser

A unique fundraiser that celebrates your child's creativity!

Over the past few years, our Bethlehem families raised a good amount of money for the art room through the Square One Art fundraiser.  We did not participate in the fundraiser last year.  This year, it returns!  This program allows you to purchase your child's artwork printed useful and quality keepsakes.  Some ordered flags, water bottles, mousepads, ornaments. . . . there are many wonderful items!

This past week, and into this next, all students have been participating again in the program. We have some major replenishment of art supplies to buy this year.  Here is just a
teaser on some of the art students will create. . . .

You'll soon be receiving information on the fundraiser.
Thank you in advance for your participation!

End of the Week Art

It has certainly been a fun week in the art room!  Take a look at what the students have been creating.

The young students have continued to learn about line. . . types of lines, where to find them, and how to use them in their artwork.  Kindergarten made a chart of lines, then used them as they created Patterned Turtles.

Second grade used watercolor resist to make Windy Day Art.  Fairly fitting for some days we had this week!

Seventh graders are creating "forgeries" of artwork by the French Impressionist, Claude Monet.  I can't wait to have you see the finished works.  Students are putting in a lot of effort to capture the correct colors and technique!
